This is a special programme which our most able students are invited to join. Selection is based on assessment results, school records and recommendations. Parents have the opportunity to contribute during the enrolment process. Our Year 9 and 10 Summit classes are offered the JUNIOR SUMMIT DIPLOMA, a two year programme designed to encourage students to reach their potential and to recognise and celebrate the excellent achievements of our top students. The programme is fully outlined in a booklet available from the school during Open Evenings or from the Gifted & Talented Co-ordinator by contacting (09) 831 0500. It offers a range of approaches including: acceleration of content delivery and advanced courses, activities of high interest, extended or enriched independent study, out-of-school visits, the development of effective learning strategies and a focus on achieving excellence.
Scholarship Breakfast Club
The school’s high ability students at senior level are encouraged to achieve academic excellence and to sit NZQA Scholarship examinations both at Year 12 and Year 13.
To support our seniors, the school runs a Breakfast Club every fortnight (commencing in Term 2). The programme offers a range of speakers and activities which focus on motivation, study and exam skills, as well as guiding students through the academic and financial scholarship processes. The Breakfast Club is supported by special scholarship classes run by departments and a Term 3 Holiday Study Programme.
