Head Prefect Conference 2021

Head Prefect Conference 2021

Massey High School hosted Head Prefects representing schools from across Auckland on Wednesday 4th August. The event was organised by our Head Girl, Lyncy Gregorio and Head Boy, Woo-Jin Jeon – supported by our wider student leadership team of Gold Badge, Silver Badge and House Leaders.

Honoured guests for the morning were our Head Prefects from 2020, Renitta Raju and Riley Butt, who developed the concept for the conference last year, but had their plans curtailed by COVID. It was wonderful to welcome them back home to Massey High School and allow them to see the fruition of their vision.

The keynote speaker was former Massey High School student Nic Gill PhD, BPhEd (Hons) (All Black’s Conditioning Coach and Associate Professor in Human Performance at the University of Waikato) who spoke to the group about legacy and leadership. Our Premier Sports Teams and Leadership Summit Classes were invited to hear Nic’s talk and participate in a question and answer session.

Following the presentation from Nic, the student leaders worked in across school groups, discussing pertinent issues that secondary school students from a range of backgrounds deal with on a daily basis and formulated strategies to pass on to future school leaders. A follow up conference will be held early next year.

The schools that attended were: Westlake Girls High School, Mount Albert Grammar School, Kelston Girls' College, Rangitoto College, Mount Roskill Grammar School, Waitakere College, Liston College, Rangitoto College, Rutherford College, Takapuna Grammar School, Albany Senior High School, St Mary's College, Auckland, Lynfield College, Kelston Boys' High School, Diocesan School for Girls, Auckland Girls' Grammar School, Henderson High School, Onehunga High School and Hobsonville Point Secondary School.
