Past Student Achievement - Matisse Paton

We love hearing from our past students and hearing what they are up to!

"My name is Tisse (Matisse Paton) and I graduated from Massey in 2018. I am currently working as a snowboard instructor in Queenstown for the 2021 snow season and am training to be a whitewater raft guide during the summer.

This is all thanks to Massey’s Tourism Academy. I had no idea what I wanted to do until I took this subject. When I heard about the adventure tourism industry something in my mind just clicked.

When I graduated high school, I moved to Nelson by myself and started study at NMIT where I gained my level 1 snowboard instructors and grade 2 raft guiding in my second year. I fell in love with the course in my first week and this love continued to grow throughout the year as we went sea kayaking, whitewater rafting/kayaking, rock climbing, canyoning, snowboarding/skiing and tramping. The people in the industry are amazing and I have made lifelong connections.

If you are a thrill seeker, I highly recommend getting into adventure tourism!"
