Students Preparing for the Waikato Culinary Fare 2022.
The Waikato Culinary Fare 2022 has been held by Wintec in partnership with Cater Plus, since its conception in 2004.
The Waikato Culinary Fare has grown to become the largest regional competition of its type in New Zealand. This event allows our emerging hospitality stars to compete, gaining valuable skills and experience through participation.
It is also an opportunity for the hospitality industry to come together under one roof, celebrating the sector at the leading-edge training facility at the Rotokauri Campus Hamilton.

| John Tai Thul, Academy Gold Badge Prefect at his work experience with Pho Bien, Paramount Drive. John has gained part-time employment at this restaurant. He has also been accepted into AUT’s Culinary Arts course for 2023.Because John gained a Gold Medal in the Chicken Dish, 2022, he is entering in the Junior Tertiary this year at Wintec with a duck breast dish. At present John is working on the timing required for a successful cook (60 minutes maximum). Students can weigh & measure ingredients in preparation, but they may not peel nor dice vegetables prior to the start. John is also trying different plating arrangements to find the most visually attractive display.
