KidsCan Shoes at Massey High School

Dahlia Harden 13HNI, a KidsCan Ambassador, saw a need and was determined to address it. She noticed that many students were coming to school in incorrect footwear, especially in the colder and wetter months. Other students had broken or worn-out shoes which led to cold and wet feet. Dahlia investigated and realised that this wasn’t a case of deliberately disobeying the school rules, many simply couldn’t afford to buy quality shoes, and this meant that some students felt like they couldn’t come to school at all as a result.

After discussions with members of the Senior Leadership Team and our Kaiāwhina, Jenny Marshall, Dahlia discovered just how widespread the problem was and that the school was keen to find a solution. She set to work researching how many pairs of shoes would be needed and the sizes that were most in demand. Dahlia used all of her charm on Hayley Garratt, Deputy Principal, to get an order sent through to KidsCan and within a few weeks we happily unboxed a huge delivery of shoes and socks.

Dahlia is off to study Communication at AUT next year and aims to work in film and production management.

Congratulations and thank you, Dahlia!
