COVID 19 Protection Framework Update

As you maybe aware, yesterday the Government announced that Aotearoa New Zealand was moving to a new long-term approach to managing COVID-19 which sees the removal of the COVID-19 Protection Framework (traffic lights).

The main changes for Massey High School are:

  • Masks are no longer strongly recommended in school settings for staff, students, and visitors. Some staff and students may choose to continue to wear masks, our expectation is that the choice of those individuals is respected at all times.
  • Masks will still be mandatory for anyone using the Student Health Centre.
  • Masks are no longer required on public transport or school buses.
  • Household Contacts of a person with COVID-19 do not need to isolate, instead they are asked to complete a RAT test each day, for five days. Ä€konga/students who are household contacts but test negative (do not have COVID-19 symptoms) should continue to attend school. Information on how to get RAT kits can be found here.

All the other recommended public health measures will stay in place as we know they reduce the spread of infectious illnesses including COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene, encouraging everyone to cough or sneeze into elbows and, most importantly, staying home and getting tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
