Update - Cyclone Gabrielle

Tēnā tātou e te whānau whānui o Tiriwā,

The Massey High School Board of Trustees have made the decision to close the school on Monday, February 13th. A decision on whether that will extend into Tuesday, February 14th will be made by mid-afternoon Monday as more information on the weather situation comes to hand.

This decision is due to health and safety concerns with Cyclone Gabrielle starting to make its presence felt in Auckland, and the fact that much of our community was affected in someway by the recent flooding. The safety of our students and staff is paramount and with the worst of the weather still to come, we wanted to make the decision early to allow everyone time to prepare.

Please keep monitoring your email and our social media channels for updates.

Whilst the priority tomorrow is ensuring that whānau is safe, where possible we would like our students to attempt to get online and check in on their classes/familiarise themselves with timetables, or double check timetable issues.

We are aware though that some students (and indeed teachers) may face prolonged periods without power – so it may not be possible for all to log on. Whilst our Year 9 students have not yet met all of their teachers, it is an opportunity to practice the skills learned on Friday.

To summarise, School is closed for physical instruction on Monday 13th February.  Where possible students should log on to SchoolBridge and Teams.

On Monday 13th February, logon to Teams - you should find a Team that has been setup for each of your subjects.  During the course of the day you should expect to see:

  • An introduction from your teacher
  • The Course Planner for the year
  • Possibly an introductory activity.

Should you log on, and this information is not yet there, try later in the day. Remember, some of our teachers may be in suburbs that have lost power. When you check into each classroom, let your teacher know you’ve been in by leaving a high five or thumbs up.

We are aware that some of our whānau may experience significant disruption from the weather event. We ask that you get in touch with the appropriate Dean or Jenny Marshall to advise of any situation that may impact attendance in the coming week. Likewise, if you need guidance as to what support can be accessed.
