Principal's Pānui

Just a brief Panui to round off the end of the second Term.

Thank you for the support that you have provided through the course of this Term. There have been many highlights this Term – from the first day hosting all schools in our Kāhui Ako, to our hugely successful Year 8 days and Open Night, to progress on our new music block, to our Sublimitas Choir enjoying success at the Big Sing. Throughout there has also been an uninterrupted Term of school sport which has seen our students enjoying success on the field and courts, and in the classroom. We thank all staff, parents, and caregivers that give their time to enable our students to participate in the wide range of sports on offer.

This term, after consultation, our staff agreed on a move to six subjects for our Year 11 and 12 students from next year, a decision which opens up options for our Year 13 students as well. We are currently working through course outlines in preparation for the option selection process which begins with Futures Week in Term 3.

This coming Thursday brings possibly the most anticipated event of the year for many of our senior students – The School Ball. I spoke to our students who were intending to go to the ball at a special assembly last week. We spoke about the trust that we extend to them on the night of the ball, and the fact that on that night, the decisions they make are those of young adults, and that we really have only a few expectations of them. We merely expect them to show respect to each other, to the venue, and to our school, and of course – to enjoy the occasion. A special notice will be going out to parents and caregivers of those students going to the ball on Wednesday.

In our first week back, we have our production of ‘Mamma Mia’. Students have been rehearsing for months, under the guidance of our incredibly dedicated staff in Music, Drama, and Dance. If you haven’t already got your tickets – I’d suggest you get in quick. Term 3 will also see our Arts Week up and running (postponed from Term 2 due to industrial action). The selection process for our Prefects for 2024 will also get underway.

I trust that all parents, caregivers, and students, will have a safe and enjoyable holiday break. While it is an opportunity to spend quality time with whānau and friends, it is also time for our students to reflect on their progress to date, to look at what support they may need for upcoming assessments and formulate a plan to achieve their goals for the year.

For all, take time for yourself where needed. Massey High School will see everyone again on Monday 17th July.

Ngā mihi
