School Closure - 5 December 2023

As many will be aware, there was a fire overnight at Massey High School.

My thanks to the Fire crews and Police for their efforts through the early hours of this morning. Thanks also to the Ministry of Education, I was met onsite at 2am by a representative to discuss the plan for the day.

At this stage, power to the school has been cut and will remain off until the affected block can be isolated from the grid. Fire crews will also continue with their work to ensure that the block is fully extinguished and to complete their follow up processes.

As this week is Junior Activity Week, only Year 9 and 10 students are at school.

For our students who are involved in off-site trips (Parakai and the Upper Huia Dam Bush Hike today) we advise that these trips will still go ahead. Students on these trips are to meet at the front of the school at 8.45am – you will assemble in the hall and then board your buses for your trips. All families of these students have been contacted by mtext, email and Teams.

Because there is no power at school, all students involved in on-site activities are asked to remain home until further notice – mtexts and emails have been sent to all families of these students. Notification has also been sent out through Teams.

We will send further updates during the day.
