Whānau of students new to Massey – Meet your Ākina Leader

For new students new to Massey High School in Years 10 - 13.

We have a number of students from Year 10 to 13 who have just started their journey with us at Massey High School. For many, they are now coming to the end of their second full week here, relationships have been established with their new classmates, and with their new teachers.

We would like to invite you (and your child) to meet your child’s Ākina Leader, the Ākina Leader will provide academic guidance and support for your child for the remainder of their time here.

The relationship between your child’s Ākina Leader and yourself is one of the most important at the school. For most, the Ākina Leader that they started their time here with, will be the same person that congratulates them as they graduate at the end of Year 13. As your child progresses at school, the Ākina Leader often becomes the go-to adult for them.

The hour will provide an opportunity to hear a little about how important the role of the Ākina Leader is and the importance that the Tutor Teacher plays, the most effective ways to communicate with them, how they will support your child in their journey at Massey, and the opportunities and pathways available.

Details for the evening are:

  • Wednesday 19th February
  • 6pm – 7pm

We will meet first in the Bruce Ritchie Performing Arts Centre at the front of the school, after which you and your child will move to nearby rooms to meet your child’s Ākina Leader. There will be a small kai in each room.

We look forward to hosting you next Wednesday evening.
