Principal's Pānui
27 June 2025
Term two closes on the news that Massey High School now has All Black number 6 (Mark Telea being our most recent). Christian Lio-Willie has received the call-up into the team to play France in the upcoming June series of Tests. Christian, a Gold Badge Prefect and talented singer and musician in his time here graduated from Massey High School in 2016. His hard work on the field has been mirrored off it, with Christian graduating with a Bachelor of Dentistry from the University of Otago while he continued with his playing career. As one of the consistently high performing players in the Super Rugby competition this year (starting every game at Number 8 for the Crusaders) his call up comes as no surprise.
The annual School Ball takes place on the first Thursday of the holiday period. We met with ball-goers yesterday to discuss the few expectations we have of them that night. The School Ball is a high trust event, and our students respond brilliantly every year to the trust extended to them. Indeed, year after year, venues comment on the outstanding behaviour and respect shown by Massey High School students. We are confident that that will continue this year. A special notice will go out to parents and caregivers of ball-goers on Tuesday, please keep an eye out for it.
Today we said farewell to a group of wonderful students from Hong Kong. On the subject of International students – Craig Walker Building Removals delivers what will become our new International Student Hub on Monday, we look forward to this building coming into operation during Term 3.
While most of our students will be taking the opportunity to relax a little over the holiday, the cast and crew will be busy with final rehearsals and preparations for the production of ‘Shrek’. It is a mammoth undertaking from all involved, so it would be great to have every performance sold out. Their first week back will commence with the matinee performances for our contributing schools.
We trust that all parents, caregivers, and students, will have a safe and enjoyable holiday break. While it is an opportunity to spend quality time with whānau and friends we ask that our students balance their holiday time with some time to reflect on their progress to date, to look at what support they may need for upcoming assessments and formulate a plan to achieve their goals for the year. Term 3 is always a busy term for those undertaking NCEA across all levels.
For all, take time for yourself where needed. Massey High School will see everyone again on Monday 14th July.
