Level 2 Tourism Plus Academy – New Zealand School of Tourism Taster Day
On Thursday, the Level 2 students visited the Airport Campus of the New Zealand School of Tourism.
Detroit offered a great introduction to the facilities, the courses on offer and we were welcomed by several tutors including Helena, a graduate of Massey High School 2013. We received a behind the scenes tour of the Ibis hotel as well as presentations on the skills and qualities the industry is looking for.
After lunch, the students attended a student-led expo showcasing the regions of New Zealand. This included sampling food and (non-alcoholic) wine from each region. The day culminated in the wingless plane, with students being taken through an emergency evacuation down the slide.
It was also wonderful to catch up with Lorietta Lam Kam a 2021 Massey High School Graduate and the recipient of the NZST scholarship. She has completed her Level 4 diploma in Tourism, Hotel and Airline Operations. She is now undertaking her Level 5 qualification.
