Scholarships and Awards for 2021

It is rewarding to see a number of our Massey High School students successfully winning scholarships from Universities for their future tertiary studies. A few scholarship awards recognised high academic achievement in addition student involvement in leadership and other co-curricular activities to support the school events and student learning environment was well recognised. Thank you to all the Universities for their support with the scholarship awards. We are privileged to share these success stories with you all.

Lyncy Gregorio: Head Girl – Gold Badge Prefect


University of Auckland Top Achievers Scholarship ($20K) 
Bachelor of Science (Biomed) 
Lyncy is a truly outstanding student who has maintained an excellent record of achievement in both academic and extra-curricular activities throughout her five years at Massey High School. She has leadership qualities across the academia and performing arts arena. Lyncy is determined to succeed in her studies at university and is looking forward to the academic rigour that is required at this level. She received multiple scholarship offers in recognition of her demonstrable academic achievements and leadership talent.

Woo-Jin Jeon: Head Boy – Gold Badge Prefect


University of Auckland Top Achievers Scholarship ($20K)

Woo-Jin is an exceptional young man who demonstrates true leadership characteristics alongside a friendly and relaxed manner. Woo-Jin is a dedicated and hardworking student who has achieved an impressive academic record during his time at Massey High School and had his goal set on Medicine looking forward to his studies at the University of Auckland.

 Lucas Taeiloa – Deputy Head Boy – Gold Badge Prefect


Victoria University International Excellence Scholarship (30K) 
Bachelor of Science (Chem)
As Deputy Head Boy for 2021, Lucas has been an outstanding successful respectful student leader, who has maintained an impressive academic achievement and a leader in the Dance Crew throughout the five years at Massey High School. He has participated in a number of school activities and events as a student leader supporting the continued development of junior student learning to help empower them in their educational experience. Lucas was also offered multiple scholarships from other Universities in recognition of excellent academic achievement and leadership background.

Maya Taingahue – Deputy Head Girl – Gold Badge Prefect


University of Waikato - Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement (up to $25,000 over 3 years)
Bachelor of Laws 
Maya is an exemplary positive student who has been a fantastic role model for other students at school. Maya has contributed to the culture at school in all areas including national representation for Girls Basketball. She has dedicated her time towards her academic excellence and also in sports and other co-curricular activities and events for the school. A passionate driven Māori leader with qualities and achievements that saw her awarded with multiple scholarship offers from other universities.

Peter Parker – Academic Leader – Gold Badge Prefect


University of Waikato - Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement (up to $25,000 over 3 years)
Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Civil Engineering
Peter is a very focused and highly motivated leader who has diligently amassed a fine academic record throughout his five years at Massey High School. He is a positive role model for other students at our school. Peter is pursuing Engineering, a field in which he will no doubt be extremely successful in his future studies and career pathway. Peter’s proven academic ability and achievements has attributed to his award for the Outstanding Academic Achievement Scholarship at the University of Waikato.

The Gold Badge Prefects recognise premier student leadership role models and Joshua is an phenomenal young man who has been a part of the senior student leadership group helping empower students to encourage collaboration, promote self-confidence and communication. Joshua has been an outstanding Cultural Leader, embracing and promoting diversity and is influential in bringing about positive school wide awareness of Te Ao Māori, Ti Kanga Māori and Maturanga Māori. Joshua’s commitment and level of Cultural service, combined with an impressive academic achievement is recognised with multiple university awards.

Tania’s academic performance this year sees her placed in the upper-level quartile of our year. She is reputable for her personal qualities and has been an excellent role model for the Cultural leadership position.  She has the intellect and study habits required to succeed in any field of study. A young passionate Māori rangatahi who is reputable for her personal qualities. Her leadership and academic success is recognised through the multiple scholarship offers she received from four other universities across Aotearoa.

Daniella Lim-Yip – Student Leader – Silver Badge Prefect

Daniella is one our gifted leaders at Massey High School. In recognition of her long-standing commitments to the school and her demonstrable leadership talent, this year Danielle was appointed to leading silver badge prefect position. Her academic achievement has been recognised through the Scholarship award with the University of Auckland. Daniella is looking forward to studying her design and business subjects at Auckland University next year.

Gabrielle Te’o – Karearea House Leader

Gabrielle is a friendly self-motivated student role model and is a very respectful student when dealing with students, staff, and visitors. She has held leadership roles in the school, with the Puawai Bati group, and her leadership qualities also earned her the House Leader title. She has achieved at a high level academically whilst balancing co-curricular commitments at school and on the home front. Gabriella’s overall achievements earned her multiple scholarship offers from universities. She is a respectful, talented young Samoan student who is looking forward to her next journey at AUT next year.

Charlotte is one of our gifted international students, who is diligent self-motivated student role model. She is well respected by her peers and staff at school.  Charlotte has achieved academic consistency at a high level throughout her time with Massey High School. She is a valued member of the prefect team taking her duties seriously and proving reliable and efficient in carrying out any task. Charlotte is looking forward to her future studies at Otago University.

Phoebe Ward – Silver Badge Prefect

Phoebe is a hardworking student who is hugely passionate about the Te Reo, and has also taken interest in other languages, and cultures. She is a dedicated learner who has amassed a fine academic record during her time at Massey High School. Phoebe is looking forward to her journey at Otago University where she will follow her study aspirations in the area of culture and languages.

Esther is an exemplary student and is an exceptional student who has consistently achieved academically at a high standard at Massey High School. In recognition of her long-standing commitments to the school and her demonstrable leadership talent, this year Esther was appointed the silver badge prefect position. She is commencing her BSc next year with a key focus to pathway into a Neurologist.

Bernie is a quietly driven student who has amassed a great academic record throughout his educational journey at Massey High School. Bernie is an exemplary gifted student who strives to achieve academically in all his subjects. In recognition for his achievements, he was awarded the Silver Badge. Bernie is looking forward to his studies at Otago University with the future career goal in Medicine.

Ruby has maintained a level of excellence in her academic achievement throughout the past couple of years.  Ruby is an exemplary student and is an exceptional student and one of our gifted leaders at Massey High School. In recognition of her commitment to her academic journey and other co-curricular activities, Ruby was appointed the Silver Badge prefect position.
