Principal's Pānui

5 December 2025

The Massey High School Board of Trustees met last night. There was brief discussion around Massey High School’s continued commitment to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi with the Board unanimously agreeing that the proposed legislative change will not affect the way we work or the approach we continue to take.

A statement from the Board is attached here.

A busy penultimate week for our junior students culminates today with Year 10 prizegiving. The last two days have seen some remarkable speeches being delivered in our annual speech competitions – on that note I’d like to acknowledge the superb behaviour of our Year 10 cohort in particular during the competition – the respect they showed each speaker was wonderful to see.

Junior Activity Week takes place next week, and all arrangements are in place. Parents and caregivers, please make sure your children check TEAMS carefully so they know where they are each day. For those on off-site excursions, you should have received communication regarding any specialist equipment/clothing needed – for all, make sure you have plenty of sunblock, sunsmart clothing, and water.

On the subject of water – a huge congratulations to our waterpolo team who finished unbeaten this year, a fantastic achievement.

I had the privilege of attending the College Sports Young Sportsperson of the Year awards evening last Thursday. Massey High School had two finalists present – Leonidas Pereira and Jaime Robinson both in the weightlifting category. Both students fully deserving of reaching the finalist stage against students from across greater Auckland, a testament to their dedication to training, their ability, and the support of their coaches and families. Leonidas was named as the winner of his category, becoming the first Massey High School student to pick up such an award since 2017.

Below is the list of all Massey High School recipients of College Sports Awards since their inception in 1991. Notable amongst the winners - Daniel Bell who won the supreme Young Sportsman of the Year Award (Swimming) in 2008. Also of note, 2005 - the winner of Badminton that year was a now member of staff, Whaea D (Danielle Tahuri nee Barry).
