A Taste of Japan in Auckland
Students immersed themselves in Japanese culture, technology, language, and traditions during an unforgettable day in the CBD.
Nineteen Year 10–12 Japanese students recently enjoyed an exciting day in Auckland CBD, taking their learning beyond the classroom and into real-world situations.
The day began with a visit to the Consulate-General of Japan, where students learned more about Japanese technology, culture, and international relations. They also had the opportunity to experience traditional Japanese clothing, trying on yukata and happi coats.
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting a local Japanese restaurant, where students put their language skills into practice by ordering their lunch entirely in Japanese. This authentic experience gave students valuable confidence in using the language in everyday situations.
The adventure continued with a Japanese-themed scavenger hunt around the city, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and cultural exploration.
It was a memorable day filled with language learning, cultural experiences, collaboration, and plenty of smiles. Experiences like these help bring classroom learning to life and inspire students to continue developing their Japanese language and cultural knowledge.
