Ask a Judge: Inspiring Future Law Students
Careers Event.
The Ask a Judge programme aims to build young people’s understanding of the courts and the important role of a judge. It gives students the opportunity to engage directly with a judge, ask questions, explore how the justice system works, and connect their learning to real-life experiences.
We were thrilled to welcome back Judge June Jelas (Class of 1984), and Faisal Ganchi and Shakerah Zakeri (both Class of 2015) — all former Massey High School students — who spoke with our Year 12 and 13 students interested in pursuing a career in law in 2027.
The session was a great success, with students asking a wide range of questions about the New Zealand legal system and learning more about the pathways to becoming a lawyer or judge. Our prospective law students also gained valuable advice on navigating law school and making the most of their university experience.
A huge thank you to Judge Jelas, Shakerah and Faisal for returning to Massey High School and sharing your knowledge, experiences and advice with our students. It was particularly special to welcome back three of our former students and see them supporting and inspiring the next generation of Massey students interested in pursuing a career in law.
