RUGBY, CULTURE AND FRIENDSHIPS ACROSS THE PACIFIC!Massey High School Welcomes Rugby Visitors from New Caledonia

On Sunday 11 October, Massey High School was delighted to welcome the Union Rugby Club Dumbéa Girls Rugby Team from New Caledonia for a week of rugby, cultural experiences and new friendships.

During their visit, the girls were billeted with our Massey High School Girls Rugby families, giving them the opportunity to experience life in New Zealand and build connections with our school community.

Throughout the week, the visiting team enjoyed a range of cultural and recreational activities, including a trip to Kaipātiki Hot Pools, watching our Massey High School girls compete in a Rugby Sevens tournament, and travelling to Hamilton to watch the New Zealand Black Ferns take on France.

One of the highlights of their visit was experiencing a traditional umu, prepared right here at Massey High School. A huge thank you to Mr Vaigalu, who led the preparation of the umu alongside our students, providing a wonderful opportunity to share culture, traditions and knowledge with our visitors.

Of course, rugby was a big part of the week! The visiting team took to the field for a friendly match against our Massey High School girls and also had the opportunity to receive coaching tips and guidance from our MHS rugby coaches.

A huge thank you to our Massey High School Girls Rugby families who opened their homes to our visitors, along with everyone who helped organise activities and make their stay such a memorable experience.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share our culture, strengthen international friendships and bring everyone together through a shared love of rugby.

We hope our visitors enjoyed their time in New Zealand and look forward to the possibility of welcoming them back in the future!
