Principal's Pānui

13 October 2025

Week 1 of Term 4 has been and gone - a very real reminder of how quickly time passes when students are as busy as they are now.

Our senior students have only a couple of weeks left as they will be undertaking their NCEA Exams shortly. Our year level assemblies this week will be focused on making the most of the time they have left in class. A key component for their success is being here at school every day so that they can complete any outstanding work, engage in structured revision and make best using the support that is made available to them so that they finish the year strong.

Our swimming pool received a new roof over the holidays – partially funded by way of a generous grant from The Trusts Community Foundation. Work continued our new International Student Hub, with a view to opening in Term 4 this year – this work is being funded by the Massey High School Foundation. Stage 2 of the remediation of the Science Block following the fire a couple of years ago also finally got underway, with new contractors moving into the site. Whilst there will be some minor disruption over the coming months, the full return of the building will be most welcome next year.

A huge thanks to our Sports Coordinators Nikki and Georgie (with support from Cecilia) for an outstanding Sports Award evening last week - a great way to kick off prizegiving season. Great attendance, fantastic speeches, and a wonderful dinner (provided in part by our netball team as part of their fundraising for their tour of England and Wales next year) made for a thoroughly enjoyable event. Megan Lee (class of 2012) was a superb speaker, leading us through her educational journey via Louisiana State University (where she played college ‘soccer’ football), her selection and career with the Football Ferns, and life beyond top-level sport – it was great to see Megan back in the school.

As you will be aware, we have been notified of further industrial action by the PPTA this week (see our special newsletter that went out over the weekend). They have advised that our teachers will be taking rostered strike action, meaning that union members will be unavailable to teach a particular year group on a specified day. The action affects the following year groups on each of the days – it is important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day(s) of the strike:

  • Tuesday 14th October – Year 9
  • Wednesday 15th October – Year 10
  • Thursday 16th October – Years 11 & 12
  • Friday 17th October – Year 13

We have also been notified of a full strike for all year groups which will take place on Thursday 23rd October.

Full teaching programmes will continue for year groups not affected on the above days. We will keep you updated via our website, social media, and newsletters should there be any updated information from the PPTA.
